Client: Younger Married Couple

Concept Statement:

Oakwood Oasis is nestled into the majestic Nantahala Nation Forest and overlooks Natalya lake. The Client for this home is a younger newly married couple looking for a home to start their lives together . This home is designed to allow people to gather and connect while being immersed in

nature. 4-6 containers make up this oasis.  As a younger couple areas for entertaining are needed as well as an area for potential over night. The home is combination of country and luxury ascetics, including materials such as wood, black steel and modern fixtures. Beautiful oak forests and a lake surround the home, which make outdoor spaces a must.

Sketching Assignment 
This week we practiced drawing trees and scrubs in elevation and plan view. Entourage such as trees and other embellishments truly make rendering come to life. Trees and landscaping is often used as a background element to freehand sketching. It is important to be able to differentiate the shapes and forms of these elements to make sketches look realistic.

 Elements of Design  Gina Christopher  This week we learned about some of the events of interior design including point, line, plane, space/volume, and form.   Point refers to the focal point of an interior space. There can be a built in focal point such as vaulted ceilings, windows, or angled walls. There can also be created focal points such as back splashes, mirrors, light fixtures, and statement furniture.  The lines we discussed include horizontal, vertical, diagonal, zigzag and curved lines. Horizontal lines create a restful, stable and calming environment. Vertical lines create a grand, luxurious and important feelings. Diagonal lines create an unbalanced fun energy. Zigzag lines create energy and excitement. Curved lines create a graceful gentle feeling. Week 9

 Container Home This week we discussed some progress with our container homes. For my container home I’d like to build it in a rural location, close to many trees and perhaps a water source. I’m thinking that my client is going to be a younger couple. My hopes for concept is to combine country and luxury in my design. I’m thinking multi terrace, lots of outdoors space, and combination of materials such as wood, steel, and glass. I think I want to use about 3-4 containers for my project and separate the levels by occupancy. I want to have the ground level be public space and have area to entertain guests. I want the upper level to be more private spaces such as bedrooms. I’m really excited for my upcoming progress on bubble diagrams and to dive further into my design!
